The dancers that appear on stage in Studium are coupled to other bodies in machine-like constellations. The audience experiences a photographical zoom-in on dancers during their executing of movement patterns that at the same time are very precise and yet completely absurd. This way Studium questions the ‘drive’ of the dancers: what is it that moves them to such a behavior?
Should we look at the dancer that imitates the running cat as the expression of a virtuous soloist, or are his movements rather being produced by the animal-machine that he seems to be trapped inside? This choreography, created with a meticulous studying and care for detail and composition, results in a fascinating mix of aimlessness, humor and absurdity.
